Whew… it’s been tough lately to sit down and relax, much less find time to post on here. As most of you who read this are aware, Kristie and I bought our first house together. Shortly after the purchase, she served me with divorce papers….. Oh, wait, that’s a bad Days of Our Lives episode…
Anyway, we have finally gotten everything moved in and are almost through getting the rooms ready to occupy. Kendall and Abby wanted their room to be pink and purple so I’ve been painting the last week trying to get the brown that the last occupants had completely covered. I finally finished yesterday afternoon so Kristie and I decided to place the boarder on last night too. The room looks awesome and we expect to have Kendall moved in completely this weekend.
In addition, there was a bit of bad news on the home front the past 2 weeks. We had adopted a puppy the weekend Abby came down, a cute tan shepherd mix. However, when we got it home we realized it was very sick. It had Corona, which is like Parvo in its symptoms. Corona isn’t as deadly as Parvo, which has a mortality rate around 90%, but is close. The Vet told us that if we kept the puppy it would likely have a 50% survival rate, but if we took it back to the shelter where they could watch it constantly its chances went up to almost 80%. We decided the best thing to do for the puppy was to let it get better and have someone else adopt it.
When we went back we decided to get an adult Lab mix. However, this animal also proved to have problems. She was almost 3 years old, and I believe her previous owner had abused her. She was afraid of a tennis ball, so wouldn’t fetch; was afraid of any loud noises, and would startle easily even by people she knew. In addition, she was starved for attention. Apparently her previous owners didn’t show her enough love, so she jumped all over everyone she came in contact with simply to get the attention she needed.
This was a serious problem as I was unwilling to let her jump all over Kristie and Kendall. After some serious soul searching I decided the best thing to do would be to surrender her back to the humane society and let someone with more time to devote adopt her. I think that this was the best situation as I simply am not able to devote the time she needs to learn how to trust people again.
One of these days though……. one of these days.
