Relief efforts

Some news floating around the station seems promising today.

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) has put out a request for 1000 two man teams to help out in New Orleans and surrounding areas during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. There are about 6 people from the fire station who are looking to go there to aid the relief effort. I was hoping to go with the ambulance service, but I think that going with the fire department would be a better situation for me. Not only would I not have to find coverage while I’m away, but I would be working with another fireman from my department rather than someone who I don’t know, and have no idea about their skill level. The only thing that concerns me is the dates as I may have to push the camping trip back a month or so.
